Workshop on Position and Power at the Harvard GSD
Lawrence Barriner II and I co-facilitated a workshop for Professor Lily Song’s Multiple Miamis Studio this week. Great dialogue with a thoughtful and brilliant group of students, and the kind of course I wish there had been more of when I was a student. The students were beginning work on their final projects, which were sector-specific recommendations for how the gentrifying Overtown neighborhood could enact community-led revitalization. Thank you for having us, GSD!
This built on a course several of my colleagues and I built with Ceasar McDowell and Karilyn Crockett called “Planners as Democratic Leaders,” when we were students at MIT’s Department of Urban Studies and Planning. Excited to see what the future might hold for these kinds of workshops at planning and design schools.
