Rudy Bruner Award for Urban Excellence | Case Study Writer
The Rudy Bruner Award, a project of the Bruner Foundation, is a national design competition and award that "recognizes transformative urban places distinguished by their economic and social contributions to America’s cities." The Bruce C. Bolling Building in Dudley Square, Boston, is a 2017 silver medalist. The building - designed by Mecanoo and Sasaki, and financed by the City of Boston - is the product of a community-engaged design process and seeks to revitalize Dudley Square by supporting local businesses and providing services to residents. The design beautifully integrated historic facades from an old popular furniture store, hearkening back to Dudley's past as a vibrant retail corridor. It also centralized the Boston Public Schools, making the department more accessible for the majority of BPS families.
